Gardeners love growing fresh herbs for the wonderful flavors they add to food and for the beauty and fragrance they add to the garden. If you love fresh herbs, you can plant a productive herb garden in minutes and enjoy it all summer long. Herbs are easy to grow, don't need a lot of space, thrive in just about any type of soil, and many are cold hardy. Herbs can be used for cooking, fragrance and landscaping. They grow well in containers, too, making them ideal for patios, decks and balconies. When you visit Bella's Country Market we will share some great ideas & information that will help you create your own successful herb garden.
Basil (Basilicum)-Basil is not frost tolerant, be sure to place outside after all threat of frost has passed
Be sure to pinch the tops of your basil plants, and don't let them flower. This will basically stop it's growth. If it has started to flower pinch those off immediately. When you harvest the basil, cut off the stems, and then strip the leaves for your recipe. There are many varieties of Basil-but we find this one is the most flavorful.
