A mother is the truest friend we have, when trials, heavy and sudden, fall upon us; when adversity takes the place of prosperity; when friends who rejoice with us in our sunshine, desert us when troubles thicken around us, still will she cling to us, and endeavors by her kind precepts and counsels to dissipate the clouds of darkness, and cause peace to return to our hearts. Washington Irving (1783-1859)
My Mother kept a garden, a garden
of the heart, she planted all the good things that gave my life it's start. She
turned me to the sunshine and encouraged me to dream, fostering and nurturing
the seeds of self-esteem... And when the winds and rain came, she protected me
enough--But not too much because she knew I'd need to stand strong and tough.
Her constant good example always taught me right from wrong--Markers for my
pathway that will last a lifetime long. I am my Mother's garden. I am her
legacy-And I hope today she feels the love reflected back from me.
As I dream in my garden of memories, I see many lovely flowers that remind me of my childhood days, when I used to pick some of the very best and prettiest flowers for my mom and grandmothers (Usually out of their neighbors gardens-much to the neighbors dismay...). My heart seemed to expand in my chest when I would present these wonderful women my special gift, the love returned to me would fill me for the rest of the day. Ahhh, wasn't life simple then?
Mom has always been very talented and creative, not only with flowers and painting, but with sewing, too. When we were little she used to sew us all our special holiday dresses, and make us costumes. I realize now that it couldn't have been easy with all us kids running around, hounding her every minute. But, now as a mother myself, I understand that it made her happy to see us gleaming over her creations. Motherhood creates a whole new person with a new set of values, priorities, and even emotions. And, I never really understood this phenomenon until I experienced it myself when I gave birth to my son.
Thank You Mom - I know how often I took you for granted when I was growing up. I always assumed you'd be there when I needed you, and you always are. I never really thought about what that meant till I got older and began to realize how often your time and energy were devoted to me. A circle of love is created between us that will never be penetrated; it is a blessing from God. You mean a lot to me, mom. You are the friend who lends me a hand whenever I'm down and hurt. You are the wise person who advices me and leads the way when I'm lost. You are the lap that keeps kept me warm when I was cold. You are the shelter that I turn to whenever I'm in trouble. You are everything I can't live without and everything that I want to be in the future. I'm proud to say to everyone that you are my mother.
I am sure that while I sit and reflect, you are remembering things-little and big-that your moms have done for you, too. This Mothers Day will not pass without mom knowing that she is appreciated for all she does (and has done) for us, and we forever cherish all the warm, loving memories she has created in our hearts. Moms would give up their lives in a moment-to save their child from a single second of pain, but also pray for more years, so they can watch their children grow and accomplish the goals they have inspired them to dream. What better day to remind your mom of what she means to you than Mothers Day?

Mothers are the place that we call home. On them we rest our heads, and close our eyes. There's no one else who grants the same soft peace, happiness, contentment, sweet release. Erasing nighttime tears with lullabies, restoring the bright sun that makes us bloom. Author unknown
