Please observe moments of silence Monday (9-11-06) at 8:46 a.m. and 9:03 a.m. to mark the times that each hijacked jetliner struck the twin towers, and at 9:59 a.m. and 10:29 a.m., for the times each tower collapsed.
Six years ago, our country was ruthlessly attacked, and more than 3,000 innocent people lost their lives. We will always remember the victims: sons and daughters, husbands and wives, dads and moms, family members, co-workers, and friends. And we will always be inspired by the heroism and decency of our fellow citizens on that day. Police, firefighters, emergency rescue personnel, doctors, nurses, and many others risked their own lives to save the lives of their fellow citizens. They demonstrated the great character and bravery of our Nation, and they embody the great spirit of America. By a joint resolution approved December 18, 2001 (Public Law 107-89), the Congress has designated September 11 of each year as "Patriot Day." GWB
September 11, 2001, is a day we will never forget. Even now, 6 years later, I cannot think about the events without becoming emotional. Throughout the centuries, war and personal tribulations have always brought us back to the realization of just how truly blessed we are and how much we love our country and all it stands for - God, Freedom and Democracy. It is also during these trying periods of our lives that we reach deep down into our very soul and find our very best.
"It cannot be emphasized too strongly or too often that this great nation was founded, not by religionists, but by Christians; not on religions, but on the gospel of Jesus Christ! For this very reason peoples of other faiths have been afforded asylum, prosperity, and freedom of worship here." - Patrick Henry
A photograph will forever remain in my mind of where I was and what I was doing when our great nation was attacked. I remain forever changed, not by this act of cowardice, but by the heroic acts of our American brothers and sisters reacting to this tragedy. United We Stand. We Will Never Forget.
